‘Mount Benson Estate is the new name for Wehl’s Mount Benson Vineyards. We intend to emulate the past successes of single vineyard wines made from grapes from this vineyard.
Our recent wineshow Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals for some of our 2016 & 2017 wines are testament of our commitment to producing quality wines mastering our coastal environment.
Over the next few years our vineyard will expand beyond the present Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz plantings to include Gerwurz, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a few Spanish varieties.
We are slowly transitioning to be an organic vineyard with sheep grazing during autumn and winter and mowing through spring and summer, minimal use of herbicide tending to zero, and organic certified fertiliser and chemicals replacing artificial products.
This carries through to our wines where traditional methods with minimal intervention is used.
Great wines start in the vineyard with quality grapes that are then guided through the fermentation, cellaring and finally bottling until ready to be consumed and enjoyed.
Our passion is our vines, our grapes and our wines, you to can savour these pleasures when enjoying our wines.

Visitors to Mount Benson Estate will regularly be greeted by our maremma ‘Polly’ who whilst aloof (like most maremma) is still very welcoming.
She assists around the vineyard with chasing pests, yarding sheep and other critters, tasting grapes for flavour and ripeness, and monitoring progress of the vineyard across the seasons. She doesn’t chase balls or sticks but loves walks through the vineyard where she gets to sniff out who has been visiting. She hates a pat or two.
